Our clients Design & Construction team is responsible for the end-to-end design and delivery of the data centre development pipeline serving a variety of customer requirements in the DC sector.
This role relates specifically to Design and Engineering Management (DEM) function. The candidate is expected to have a reasonable understanding of the entire project development life-cycle from pre-acquisition through to completion and handover.
The individual will be responsible for supporting, developing and implementing all aspects of the OUR CLIENT Design & Engineering Guidelines / Standards. The role will require the individual to support projects through-out the EMEA region.
The Design Manager will be required to provide both tactical and innovative thinking around the design and engineering of OUR CLIENT ’s data centre developments and support the team in meeting challenging deliverables against aggressive project expectations. The candidate will have responsibility for preparing the design and planning of the projects to assure that consistent application of OUR CLIENT ’s standards (project, scope and quality) achieves the established budget (heavy emphasis on quality, availability and value-engineering) and schedule objectives set for the projects.
Some understanding of operations within critical environments would also be considered valuable, although no essential.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A mechanical or electrical design engineer by profession, the candidate will be able to evidence the technical ability to support the delivery of concept and scheme designs whilst managing the document flow and successful delivery of detailed designs produced by our Consultant supply-chain. The role will be particularly focused on Building Monitoring Systems (BMS) so familiarity with them will be essential.
The candidate will be encouraged to develop a broader delivery of the DEM function across all technical disciplines (architectural, civil and structural engineering, MEP engineering, etc.) for data centre developments and re-developments as their role develops in time. In particular they will be required to focus on data centre fit-out projects as well as supporting the broader business requirements.
Supporting the delivery of the DEM function and other pre-construction activities, including: the definition project scope, project budgets, design programme, design risk management, project quality management, including acquisitions support, the attainment of planning consent, building regulation approval and other relevant pre-construction building permits.
Support the delivery of design solutions that are innovative, highly focused on commission-ability and future facility operations, yet placing emphasis on delivering value-engineered solutions aligned with the broader business requirements.
Work intrinsically with the construction Delivery Manager by supporting the DEM team, through-out the project life-cycle, in particular evaluating changes in project scope, clarifying design queries and monitoring quality. On acceptance of commissioning, assist in formally confirming the design intent has been achieved, in-line with project processes.
Liaising with and support the overseeing of external Professional Consultants (Architects, Engineers) and Equipment Suppliers.
Responsible for contributing to OUR CLIENT ’s Design & Engineering Guidelines / Standards under the guidance of the DEM team to assure that standards are up to date with industry best practices and meet OUR CLIENT ’s business objectives (heavy emphasis on quality, availability and value-engineering).
Support the delivery of projects in accordance with Design & Construction project management processes including the Gating Process, having undertaken appropriate training. Support the management other internal stakeholder expectations in a conflict encouraged environment, including: Portfolio Management, Technical Operations, Sales Engineering and Global BMS group.
Support the consistent application of OUR CLIENT Design & Engineering Guidelines/Standards across the OUR CLIENT portfolio of projects to maintain cost effective project master planning and turn key data centre development; specially on the BMS element of the project.
In conjunction with the Design and Delivery Managers, assist in producing fortnightly project reporting to the VP of Design and Construction, Design & Engineering Management to ensure that budget, schedule and scope objectives are being maintained and shall be responsible for communicating progress to both internal and external stakeholders.
Developing management skills, the ability to manage, internally and externally, multiple individuals, project teams and vendors seamlessly to meet OUR CLIENT project objectives.
In conjunction with the Design and Delivery Managers, assist in the preparation and review of budgets and forecasts related to anticipated design and construction expenditures. Assist in the review and production of detailed business case documents required to fulfill the Gating Process used in OUR CLIENT to move projects from concept stage to completion.
Ability to work with and communicate effectively with many groups and disciplines within OUR CLIENT including executive management, operations, sales engineering, sales and finance.
In conjunction with the DEM team, maintain existing vendor (BMS, equipment suppliers, architects, engineers, consultants, etc) relationships and develop new vendor relationships to ensure cost effective services for OUR CLIENT projects and support relationships with Contractors.
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities, but will support as part of a team of current and future OUR CLIENT Design Managers, Professional Consultants and vendors in performance of duties on projects.
